Balestrand er ein viktig kulturberar innan norsk arkitektur og bygningshistorie. Ein finn blant anna mange eksempel på drakestilen, som er ein norsk variant av Sveitserstilen (1890-1920). Mange av desse villaene vart bygde av kunstnarar eller rikfolk som nytta Balestrand til rekreasjon mot slutten av 1800 og byrjinga av 1900-talet.

Dei fleste av desse bygga finn ein langs promenaden frå sentrum og utover langs fjorden.

Balestrand holds an important cultural position within Norwegian architecture and building history. Here you find many examples of the ‘dragon style’, which is a Norwegian variant of the Swiss style (1890 – 1920). Many of these villas were built by artists or wealthy visitors who found inspiration and recreation in Balestrand towards the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

Most of these buildings can be found along the promenade from the centre along beside the fjord.
