St.Olaf's Church

Engelskkyrkja / St.Olaf's Church

Ho døydde i 1894.

Meir info her.

This church, built in the style of a stave church, was completed in 1897. The church was built in memory of Margaret Sophie Green Kvikne who came from England to Norway as a mountain climber. She married Knut Kvikne, then part owner of Kviknes Hotel. Margaret was the daughter of an English priest and it is said that she never quite got used to the Norwegian church with its Lutheran rituals. She died in 1894 and it was her last wish that an English church be built in Balholm. Her husband Knut commenced the work and it was completed three years later.

The church comes under the auspices of the Church of England and the Bishop of Gibraltar, who is the head of all the Anglican churches on the European mainland.

Throughout the summer months priests come from England and hold services at the church. More info.
